Clerical Errors 2011

Will this be the last? Rev Stephen Beer led us in another selection of musical greats, and not so greats, comedy skits and entrancing performances by our circuit staff. This will be Stephen's last performance with us officially, as he retires to the green pastures of middle england, but the pictures live on, and the memory is indelibly marked in many minds!

CELEBRATING THE BIBLE
Hull (West) Circuit.

What a great afternoon we had celebrating the Bible together. The church was set out in ‘Jools Holland – Later’ fashion with groups, choirs and musicians from the circuit around the edges and everyone else sitting at tables in the centre. Stephen ‘Jools’ Beer moved around the whole weaving the story together, and introducing congregational hymns and contributions from the groups ranging from ‘He that shall endure’ from Mendelsohn’s ‘Elijah, through ‘Deep Harmony’ played on Brass, to Russell Frager’s  ‘Holy Spirit rain down’ and Boney M’s ‘By the Rivers of Babylon’.All topped off by refreshments, and free Bible reading resources to take home.

Circuit Weekend 2010

We held a circuit weekend on the 9th and 10th October 2010

We held a circuit walk, and indoor games in the afternoon, and enjoyed a hog roast for evening meal, before Paul Field joined us for a concert. Paul remained with us for Sunday morning, sharing in Worship with our own minister Mike Poole for a family service that filled the church to bursting point. We even had a few who couldnt get in, and went down the road to the Parish church.

Circuit Prayer Web

Our circuit prayer web meets monthly, but for one special day they undertook a prayer safari of the churches in our circuit. By the end of the ay they were both exhausted and uplifted by all they had shared, and those of us who shared with them felt very blessed by the day.

Clerical Errors

A tradition in Hull West is that the clergy and lay staff undertake to entertain the circuit with a 'variety show' on an annual basis. Sketches, drama, music, singing and general tom-foolery abound. Highlights this year were undoubtedly Meg, as 'Mrs Beamish', Kathie's VERY un-PC 'I look down on her' sketch and Keith (Keith...keith...keith...J...J....J....Parr!!!) as the 'Karaoke Minister'. He may even have some of his CDs left to sell, although I dont think the gold medallion is for sale.

Global Day of Prayer

Held at Beverley Minster, this years Global Day of Prayer was organised by minister's from the Hull West Circuit. The afternoon saw prayer zones throughout the Minster, and the evening a fantastic prayer and praise service drawing on talent and tradition from across our churches. Wesley Loane preached the word from Ezekiel and challenged us to put flesh on the bones of our working together.

Anlaby Fun Day

As part of Hope 08 Anlaby Park organised a fun day for its community. To the right you see a collage of images from the day. Thankfully after much praying it was one of the few dry spells this summer and everyone thoroughly enjoyed themselves.

 Brough’s Golden Jubilee weekend

Brough had a celebration meal for more than 90 people in the church on the Friday evening (6th June 2008) to which former ministers were invited, and a good number came.  On Saturday we had Open Church and refreshments all day.  There were displays about the activities of the church community and a beautiful display of flowers.  Marie Routledge (the organist) played 50 hymns on the organ and an impromptu choir formed and sang along with her.  On Saturday evening we had a prayer and praise and finished the weekend off with a service of celebration and commitment to the next 50 years on the Sunday morning.

Take place each month on the second Friday from 11:30-1:30 and raise money for local and international charities.

Run by our enthusiastic and hardworking members, each month we have a selection of up to six soups, home made bread and cakes.

It is a very popular event and draws in 40-70 people each time we run, we even have to spill over into the Sunday school room at times. Watch for the signs on the church and please feel free to join us.

Cottingham Cleanup Day

As part of our Hope 08 activities in the year, Cottingham Churches Together which consists of six churches of different denominations teamed up to cleanup the village. We split into three teams, two taking on overgrown snickets, and one tackling some of the graffiti on the public buildings. We were assisted on the day by local councillors, special police officers and the Neighbourhood action team coordinator.
